The Foodsteps Project
The Foodsteps Project built on the work of the Local Food for Local Schools Project. It set up a local food action network which linked producers, schools, community groups, nutrition & health workers and the wider community across north Devon.
It provided a central contact and resource point for local food activities, promoted the use of healthy local food and raised awareness of food issues through newsletters and local food events.

Grab a Bag - Growing the market for local vegetables
.jpg)
One of the initiatives in the Foodsteps project was a highly successful 'Grab a Bag' pilot scheme.
The project ran in two schools in north Devon - one rural, one urban - and offered, at the school gate, bags of locally-grown vegetables plus a recipe, for £1. The take up by both partent and teachers was very good - over 400 bags were sold in a six week period! It is now being further developed as a fundraiser for the PTA.
The picture is of the bags of vegetables waiting at the school gate.
